We are moving on and now heading to the Little League World Series. It just so happens that a local team, Pearland, TX, is playing in the opening game of the LLWS. On our drive today we passed through the state of Ohio, of which we had never stepped foot in before today! We can mark that state off our list, but will definitely come back here another time. Upon reaching Pennsylvania, we were both totally surprised at the scenery. Having only been to Gettysburg, PA many, many years ago, this was only our 2nd time to be in the state.
August 20 - Lock Haven, PA area
This morning we woke up to rainy weather and not feeling real good about our hopes to see the LLWS game in Williamsport. Before heading to the game we drove on the Elk Scenic Byway,
Well as we guessed it, the LLWS opening day game has been cancelled. It's raining really hard! After hearing that Pearland would be playing a local Pennyslvania team again tomorrow (about an hour drive away) we realized that our chances of getting into the game were probably slim to none. But that's not going to stop us from visiting the park today.
“The Mighty Casey,” a 14-foot bronze rendition of the fabled slugger from the iconic baseball poem “Casey at the Bat".
This is the famous hill where everybody likes to slide down!
It's still raining so we drove around the beautiful town of Lock Haven, where we are staying, to see some of the beautiful architecture of the houses and other buildings in town.
August 21 - Lock Haven, Pennsylvania to Clear Spring, Maryland
As we make our way to Virginia, Harrisburg, the state capitol of Pennsylvania, is directly in our path and we never miss an opportunity to see a state capitol.
The Susquehanna River in Harrisburg
The Pennsylvania State Capitol in Harrisburg. The history of Pennsylvania's capitol is quite a story in itself. It's too lengthy to mention here but for history buffs it's worth a read.
The Cathedral Parish of St. Patrick in Harrisburg is another beautiful Catholic Church just down the street from the Capitol. It never ceases to amaze me the beauty, peace and calmness when entering these most sacred places.
Leaving Harrisburg our next stop is Hershey, Pennsylvania, home to all things "chocolate!"
Notice all the lamposts on Chocolate Avenue are Kisses
Chocolate World is an interactive simulation of the candy making process, start to finish.
No, we didn't buy it!
Picnic lunch at the Roadside Park
August 22 - Clear Spring, Maryland to Cairo, West Virginia and North Bend State Park

I couldn't resist putting all three of these butterfly photos in. When you get the perfect shot...
And these butterflies were all over this flower. Can you spot the bee?
One of our many crossings of the Appalachian Trail.
"Iron Mike," one of the many Civilian Conservation Corps "boys" that helped create the form and fabric of these many parks.
Till next week...

August 25 - Davis, West Virginia to Charlottesville, Virginia
The majority of our day today will be spent on Skyline Drive in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. My cousins got a good laugh out of the fact that of the 75 scenic overlooks I had Larry stop at all but 3 or 4!! So these are my photos of some of those overlooks. But before we hit the Shenandoah Valley we passed through Seneca Rocks again. We had been here in 2012

Wonderful pictures, Cathy. You're getting good with those birds.
